Microsoft Access

Microsoft Access can’t find the database file….Make sure you entered the correct path and file name.

You have a split database, end users can’t access the database because you’re getting an error message saying Microsoft can’t find the back-end file even though you know it’s in the folder it’s listing! Besides making sure the end users have the proper permissions to the folders, the problem could be that the users do not have consistent drive mappings. Here’s a step-by-step solution to try.

  1. Click the “External Data” tab.
  2. Click the “Linked Table Manager”.
  3. Make sure the “Always prompt for new location” is checked.
  4. Check the boxes next to your table it can’t locate and click OK.
  6. Click “Open”.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Save and make sure to save this to your front-end (user) database.

Typing your actual server name instead of a file path letter allows any users computer to understand the file path.
